چکیده

Over the past few decades, aluminium (Al) has been considered to be beneficial for castability but detrimental creep resistance of magnesium (Mg) alloys. However, an excellent achieved in a die-cast Mg3.5RE(La,Ce,Nd)1.5GdMnAl alloy, with super low steady-state rate (SCR) 1.35 × 10?10s?1 at 300 °C/50 MPa. Compared counterpart Al-free Mg3.5RE(La,Ce,Nd)1.5GdMn SCR decreased by 71%. The synergistic effect Al, Gd and Mn induced novel thermally stable (TS) AlMnGd ternary short-range order (SRO, 0–2 nm)/cluster (2–10 nm) Mg matrix. After MPa 400 h, SRO was still observed, clusters were under 10 nm coherent High density SRO/clusters observed pinning dislocations, which main reason improvement contrast alloy. TS Mg12RE(La,Ce,Nd) network grain boundaries (GBs) impeded dislocation mobility, also played important role compared traditional Mg-Al-based Under critical conditions °C 50–80 MPa, satisfied power law, dominant mechanisms SRO/cluster drag gliding, associated GB diffusion. This work provides clear evidence long-term existence some alloys critically high temperatures stresses. Moreover, utilization can approach designing heat-resistant

Effect of Mg addition on the creep and yield behavior of an Al–Sc alloy

The relationships between microstructure and strength were studied at room temperature and 300 °C in an Al–2 wt% Mg–0.2 wt% Sc alloy, containing Mg in solid-solution and Al3Sc (L12 structure) as nanosize precipitates. At room temperature, the yield strength is controlled by the superposition of solid-solution and precipitation strengthening. At 300 °C and at large applied stresses, the creep st...

Creep Behavior of Al-Si Die-Cast Alloys

Commercial, aluminum die-cast alloys are subject to long-term stresses leading to viscoelastic material responses resulting in inefficient engine operation and failure. Constant load creep tests were conducted on aluminum die-casting alloys: B-390, eutectic Al-Si and a 17% Si-Al alloys. Rupture occurred in the primary creep regime, with the eutectic alloy having the longest times to failure. Pr...

Mechanical Properties of Die-Cast Nonflammable Mg Alloy

Tensile specimens of nonflammable AZ91D Mg alloy were fabricated in this study via cold chamber die-casting process. Dimensions of tensile specimens were 25mm in length, 4mm in width, and 0.8 or 3.0mm in thickness. Microstructure observation was conducted before and after tensile tests at room temperature. In the die casting process, various injection distances from 150 to 260mm were employed t...

Microstructure Stability and Creep Strength in a Die-Cast AX52 Magnesium Alloy

Superior creep strength of a heat resistant AX52 magnesium alloy is ascribed to the grain boundary eutectic Al2Ca phase covering the primary -Mg grains. The eutectic phase is stable in morphology at temperatures below 473K, while it collapses during long term exposure at temperatures higher than 473K. The microstructural change of the alloy during high temperature exposure is characterized by t...

Morphological and Thermal Flux Analysis in as-Cast Al Alloy after Swarf Addition

In this research, effect of swarf addition on the microstructure of die cast aluminum A380 alloy and the possibility of altering the alloy structure in the metallic die has been studied. The microstructure mainly consists of the α-phase, eutectic, intermetallic compounds and porosity. Since the alloy solidifies under non-equilibrium conditions, the Scheil equation with exact amount of equilibri...
